What was the challenge?

In 2025, BIFF set out to reinvent itself as a four-day festival held across Brisbane. The goal was to attract new and diverse audiences, lift its international reputation, and create a brand that felt bold, modern, and proudly Brisbane. The challenge was to give BIFF the confidence and edge to stand alongside major festivals like Sydney, Melbourne, and TIFF while maintaining its unique character.

What did we do next?

The new identity for the Brisbane International Film Festival distils cinema to its purest form. The B of Brisbane becomes a minimalist film reel, its two internal spaces forming the reel’s perforations, merging letterform and icon in a single gesture. This subtle transformation creates instant recognition without resorting to cliché. Confident and modern, the mark reflects a festival intent on elevating both perception and experience, from local event to international platform. It captures the festival’s theme, CINEMA ELEVATED, with an identity that feels timeless, bold, and unmistakably cinematic.
