Challenge

What was the challenge?

Cancer Council Queensland’s previous website had been in place for more than 20 years and had become outdated, internally focused, and difficult to use. The challenge was to create a digital presence that could reflect the deeply personal and complex experience of cancer while serving a diverse audience - from people living with a diagnosis, to families, carers, healthcare workers, researchers, and supporters.

Solution

What did we do next?

ROMEO undertook extensive stakeholder engagement and trauma-informed user research across all audience groups. Insights from this process guided the development of a new information architecture, refined iteratively with the client to balance diverse user needs and internal objectives. The design centred on empathy, clarity, and accessibility, creating a digital hub that brought together practical resources, research, and community support.

The new website launched in 2025 to universally positive feedback. Engagement metrics show users are spending more time exploring resources, with the site now serving as a compassionate, central hub that empowers individuals and families while strengthening CCQ’s role as a trusted leader in support, research, and prevention.
