Challenge

Queensland University of Technology saw a chance to refresh its digital brand experience via its QUT app. However, without a dedicated digital style guide, the app lacked a cohesive visual identity that aligned with QUT’s broader brand. The challenge was to develop a fresh creative direction that would make the app a more engaging, personalised, and seamless companion for students while establishing a cohesive brand style that can extend across future digital products. 

Solution

ROMEO introduced a new illustration style that reimagines the app as the ultimate student companion, with the illustrations bringing the user's perspective to life. The look was designed to resonate with students, the vibrant colours and expressive visuals create a sense of familiarity and connection, making the app feel like an extension of campus life. Paired with a refined digital design system, the look and feel prioritise warmth, engagement, and accessibility—enhancing customisation and storytelling. The new brand assets not only elevate the mobile app but also set the stage for a more unified digital look and feel across QUT’s platforms.

To provide safe and reliable services, WLSQ needed a website experience that seamlessly guided users through every stage—whether they were gathering information or determining their next steps. This meant tailoring the journey to individual needs, providing support and extra safety measures in more critical situations, and being sensitive to the kinds of information and assistance required in a wide range of circumstances.

Creating a seamless and supportive website experience meant organising content in a way that made information easier to process, search through, and find. Clear titles, labels, and headings improved accessibility, making it simple to identify the right support. The quick exit button was fixed to offer an added layer of safety in critical situations. Every element was designed to create a seamless, secure experience that supports a wide range of needs.
